On October 25th, our Chapter met at the Ajax Public Library for an evening of learning, networking, and sharing. The evening may have marked the first frosty evening of the year but the mood inside remained warm and inviting.
TEACHING LITERACY
The evening opened with a presentation by Declan Nolan on the struggles and joys that accompany teaching in the lowest levels of language learning. His honest discussion of the challenges facing supply teachers and his sincere desire to empower his students through language led to some interesting comments and feedback, both during and after the event.
LEARNING WITH TUTELA
The second half of the evening was focused on building our comfort and confidence with using the online PD resource, Tutela. Diane Ramanathan, a lead coordinator with Tutela, joined us online for this live and interactive webinar.
Diane expertly guided us through the website, highlighting ways to maximize searches of online materials as she showcased the breadth of materials for every skill and CLB level. The wealth of resources was simply amazing at points, with contributions from groups across Canada. We also had a chance to explore some of the ways in which Tutela supports online collaboration through the group chats and live webinars.
Diane has kindly offered to share screenshots from her presentation (see PowerPoint below) which guides you through how to access all of the resources.
